Fred and Kiya Bachmann are avid travelers who have visited many spas in the U.S. and around the world. Drawing from their extensive experiences, they have established the luxurious Stay Spa Retreat and Lakefront Townhome on Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin.
“We wanted to build a spa suite that gives our guests the features that we loved the most,” says Fred. “This way they don’t have to travel thousands of miles to experience the hot and cold plunges in Japan or the grottoes and eucalyptus mists in Thailand.”
Fred, a second-generation luxury home builder, and Kiya, an esthetician and massage therapist, combined their skills to design and build the Stay Spa Retreat. Together, they also own and operate a well-regarded swimming pool and spa business in Madison.
They built the Stay Spa on some of the best waterfront in the state—a beautiful stretch of beach on the fourth largest lake in Wisconsin, with an ocean-like view of the water as far as the eye can see, complete with waves crashing along the shore.
The Stay Spa Retreat features a Spa Suite with hot and cold plunges a eucalyptus steam room, a six-minute lifelike storm sequence, and the option for in-house Spa Services.

A: The Stay Spa Retreat is a one-of-a-kind experience! It is a luxurious 4-bedroom condominium that includes a Spa Suite complete with a full hot tub, steam room, cold plunge, and two spa treatment rooms all within the unit itself! You have everything you need all within the Stay Spa Retreat. It is a private condo-home, not a busy, overcrowded resort.
A: The Stay Spa Retreat is a 2-story condominium home with all 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. However, we have ways to accommodate those who need a sleeping area on the 1st floor. Please ask.
A: The Castle Rock Condominium Homes are located on the South end of Castle Rock Lake. The exact address will be sent to you with your check in information.
A: Yes! Walk out any of the three patio doors of your private condo and you are directly on Castle Rock Lake beach. The beach nearest you is great for swimming, sunning, visiting the Tikki hut, or docking your boat temporarily. A second nearby beach is a minute walk from the Stay Spa Retreat at the Portofino Bay Marina. Yet another beach is less than a mile away at Castle Rock County Park.
A: All the inside amenities; the Spa Suite with a large hot tub spa, cold plunge, steam room, the two spa treatment rooms, and another hot tub on the 2nd floor balcony are for the renters’ exclusive private use. The amenities are included in the nightly rate. Spa services are extra.
A: Yes! There are two spa treatment rooms located within the condo. This way you can STAY within the comfort and luxury of the Stay Spa Retreat and receive services of your choice from experienced spa professionals. After you have made your reservation, you will receive an email of information on reserving spa services during your stay.
A: Yes! Only guests of the Stay Spa can utilize the spa services provided onsite.
A: No Sorry, the Spa services provided at the Stay Spa are only for guests who have booked lodging there through VRBO.
A: The Stay Spa Retreat can easily accommodate 10 adults. Maximum capacity is 14 adults with an extra charge of $25 per person per night over 10 people. Our Spacious Lakefront Townhome is available if you need more room.
A: It comes with a gourmet kitchen, fully stocked with all the cooking pots, pans, and utensils that you will need.
A: Both Keurig and automatic drip coffee makers are provided, along with coffee filters. Please bring your own coffee.
A: Yes! There is a gas grill and an outdoor kitchen available on the property.
A: There is a convenience store/gas station less than two miles away at the intersection of Hwy G and HH. The nearest grocery/liquor store is Festival Foods in Mauston, 11 miles away.
A: There is an on-site restaurant and bar with Portofino Bay Marina, about a 2 minutes’ walk from the Stay Spa Retreat. There are several other restaurants nearby and in Mauston. With your check in information, you will be emailed a list of area restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores.
A: The boat landing is less than a mile away at Castle Rock County Park, and can accommodate up to a 45′ powerboat.
A: Yes! Boat slips are available for rent from Portofino Marina.
A: The two companies that we know of that rent boats on Castle Rock Lake are Castle Rock Watersports and Fun in the Sun Watersports.
A: Yes! You can snowmobile directly from your patio door. Just think, ride the trails all day, and come back and relax in a huge hot tub, steam room, or dare the cold plunge tub. Then watch the game on the large plasma TV in the entertainment area.
A: The nearest is Castle Rock Golf Course, approximately 9 miles away.
A: Christmas Mountain Ski Resort is approximately 25 miles to the southeast.

A: White towels of three sizes are provided, but only for indoor use. Please bring your own beach towels. A good supply of paper towels, toilet paper, and dishwashing soap, sponges, kitchen towels are provided. If you are a large group or staying for a longer time, you may run out and need to supply your own. There is body soap, shampoo, and conditioner in all 2nd floor bathroom showers.
A: The nearest private airport is located in Baraboo, WI, only 33 miles away. The nearest public airport is located in Madison, WI, 71 miles away.
A: The rates are listed on VRBO. When you click any of the “book now” or “check availability” buttons you will be able to see a rate quote for time period you wish to reserve.
A: VRBO accepts credit cards. All of your payments will be done through VRBO.
